The beginning of these posts was my My Life Just Hit a Brick Wall at High Velocity, on the Cusp of My 50th Birthday: Mid Life Crisis 101 post. I link that post because I want to give my readers some useful context for what I write in these posts.
Warm greetings all! 🙏 💚
I got a rather late start to my morning, mostly because I didn't sleep well again last night (my relationship with sleep has been very curious for many months now), so I stayed up on my lava perch at the Flow House later as well, past 12:30PM today. The weather was alternating between sun and rain quite a bit this morning, especially early on. Because of my late start, I went straight from making my superfood coffee to a short morning community meeting. My lack of sleep made writing my Index4Index Daily Inspired Motivation: Living by Our Own Light post take a little longer, but it flowed reasonably well. My superfood fire coffee definitely helped to perk me up a bit.
There were various things in my mind this morning that I wanted to get done today. The very first thing that I did was to go choose a new Fijian machete. I spray painted the end of it to make it very clear which machete is mine. It feels different in my hands. Not bad, just different. It will take me a little time to get accustomed to it, I look forward to it though. I intended to use it for the first time today, but that didn't happen. All good. Tomorrow.
With my new machete chosen, I moved on to my other tasks, the next of which was to to dig up and pot a couple tropical milkweed - Asclepias curassavica plants that I found behind Kana's house, in the Star Apple Orchard, where we've been clearing. It was really curious to see them growing back there, as they usually require more sun.
My next plant task was to collect some red cinder to put in a round tray with holes in the bottom, then to go collect all the ripe mamaki - Pipturus albidus fruits from two of our three last surviving trees on the property, and sow them in the tray. Mamaki is very challenging to propagate, but gently smearing the fruit on the surface of the cinder has a higher probability of success than most other methods. Mamaki is a very important endemic (found only in the Hawaiian Islands) medicinal (it's an arborescent spineless nettle revered by the native Hawaiians) that has been a very important component of my medicinal tea blends. Propagating it, therefore, is a very high priority.
While I was in my nursery, I up-potted all of my cotton seedlings. Working in my nursery every day, or at least several days each week, is having a wonderful effect, as I'm seeing my nursery become more and more organized, more beautiful, and a lot fuller each day, which gives me a huge feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction.
After playing with my plants for a while, I ended up playing with Miria in and out of the pool, for almost two hours. Playing with her has definitely become a regular thing, much to her happiness.
I made a quick sandwich (sourdough, chicken sausage, spicy brown mustard, pepperjack cheese) in the Landing after playing with Miria, and happily took it up to the Flow House to enjoy as I did some Hive catch up. I stayed there for maybe half an hour, then I went to help Brittany move the many panels of the experimental moveable modular sheep pen (it's kind of like a giant chicken tractor, but for sheep) under cover into one of the covered parking spaces.
I've been meaning to make a batch of my spiced popcorn (coconut oil, olive oil, pink Himalayan sea salt, garlic powder, onion powder, nutritional yeast, dill, black pepper, curry powder, cayenne powder, and smoked paprika) for several days now, and this evening I finally did it. Bryan, who loves my popcorn, just happened to be walking past the Landing just as I was starting. When I finally had it made, he and I enjoyed it while standing at the granite countertop. I decided that I wanted to take a photo of the finished popcorn, since I hadn't made any in many months, and my two machetes side by side, my old damaged one and my new unused one.
My super yummy and satisfying spiced popcorn, that Bryan and I thoroughly enjoyed this evening.
My old damaged machete and my new so far unused machete, next to each other. It feels like a changing of the guards.
Once Bryan and I ate to satiation, I returned to the Flow House to do another round round of Hive catch up, and to begin writing this post. Today was an enjoyable day playing with plant and Miria, acquiring a new machete, and making and sharing my very satisfying spiced popcorn. While I didn't get any land clearing work done today, I'm happy with how my day flowed, and with what I actually did get done.
And with that dear friends I shall end this post. I think I'm going to go to sleep early tonight, as I'm bloody sleepy! I wish y'all a sublimely sweet day or night, wherever you happen to be in the world. G'Night for now! 😁🙏💚⚡💥🔥✴️❇️✳️👣🌱✨🤙
