The Ruin Of Majapahit Empire

in ASEAN HIVE COMMUNITYlast year

Many writings state that the Peregrek War was the main cause of Majapahit's decline after the death of Hayam Wuruk. During the time of Hayam Wuruk, Majapahit had two palaces. Another source claims that Majapahit had two palaces since Raden Wijaya, the East Palace and the West Palace. The eastern palace is in Trowulan and the western palace is in Daha. Hayam Wuruk occupied the western palace, while Wijayarajasa (Hayam Wuruk's father-in-law) occupied the eastern palace.

After Hayam Wuruk died, the western palace passed to Wikramawardana 1389, Hayam Wuruk's son-in-law and nephew. After Wijayarajasa died in 1398, the eastern palace passed to Bhre Wirabhumi, who was also the son of Hayam Wuruk's concubine.

Then there was a cold war between Bhre Wirabhumi and Wikramardana in 1401, due to the appointment of several regional heads who did not reach an agreement. The Peregreg war occurred in 1404.The peregreg war means a very slow war, which the eastern and western courts sometimes won. In this war Bhre Wirabumi finally suffered defeat.

This war drained the power of Majapahit internally, both militarily and financially. This situation caused the Majapahit empire to break away one by one, such as the kingdoms of Malay, Brunei, Malacca and other kingdoms.

Even though it was weakened, the Majapahit kingdom was still standing and still had a wide area of power. During the reign of Bhre Kertabumi or Brawijaya V 1468-1478 , Islam had begun to develop in the Majapahit region. An Islamic scholar from China named Tan Go Wat or Sheikh Bentong has a daughter named Siu Ban Ci. Bhre Kertabumi married Siu Ban Ci. During her marriage, Siu Ban Ci became pregnant. But the love story in the royal environment made Bhre Kertabumi have to exile Siu Ban Ci to Pelembang, a territory of the Majapahit kingdom under the leadership of Arya Damar. Siu Ban Ci was exiled because the empress, Dwarawati was jealous.
Siu Ban Ci gave birth to a mighty son who was named Jimbun. After Jimbun was born, Siu Ban Ci remarried and had children named Kin San or Raden Kusen or Husein.

Establishment of the Kingdom of Demak
When he grew up, Raden Hasan (Jimbun) with Husen (Kin San) returned to Java. There are several versions of his return to Java, the first is to meet his father and ask for a freedom area, another story is studying religion from Walisongo and establishing a boarding school in the Demak area. Husein served in Majapahit and was appointed duke in the Terung area near Sidoarjo and was called Adipati Terung.
In 1478, the Demak region became a new, advanced region, which eventually, with the support of the wali songo, Jimbun was crowned as the Sultan or the new ruler in Demak with the title Syah Alam Akbar Al-Fatah. Demak, on the other hand, was still part of Majapahit territory.
Brawijaya V was experiencing a rebellion by Giridrawarhdhana, the son-in-law of Brawijaya V. Finally, Majapahit fell to Girindrawardhana, and he held the title of Brawijaya VI.

Demak Vs Majapahit War
There are several versions of the story of the war between Demak and Majapahit, but in this case I am leaning towards the version of the Jiyu and Petak inscriptions.

The coup that was carried out by Girindrawardhana, and appointed himself as Brawijaya VI, angered Raden Patah because Brawijaya V was the father of Raden Patah.
There were several wars between Demak and Majapahit under the reign of Brawijaya VI. The last war that finally Demak managed to defeat Majapahit in 1527. After that, the Majapahit kingdom collapsed.
