This plant is very pretty and seems to grow here very happily.

The "Buchsbaum" (Buxus sempervirens) is growing a little here and ready for trimming.

Here I decided for a different color of Thuja

Here we have a decorative plant at the front of the house. This falls under the stewardship of my wife.

Hello My Green-Fingered Friends,

I wanted to give a garden update on how my plants are doing in the garden before winter kicks in. My plants here will stay outside for the whole winter and I have given them some special fertiliser to help them during this time.

I don't have too many plants and I try to keep the garden (front and back) as simple and low maintenance as I can. Although next year I am thinking to add some plant beds and expand a little.

I am also wanting to create a row alongside my neighbors that could grow and give some privacy in the future. I was looking to buy some plants or maybe take some cuttings from my existing ones and see if they will grow instead.

A job for next spring will be to remove the weeds growing between the stones and to trim the "Buchsbaum", I think that is box tree in English. I was discussing the Buchsbaum with another fellow green-fingered friend and they mentioned in this area there is a blight for these plants and we get infestations from insects, so we shouldn't have them here. Therefore at some point, I will need to replace them with something else.

They are in the front of the house, therefore I would need something that stays green throughout the year as it would look nice. I will make a field trip around the neighboring houses to show you what other people have and maybe this could give some inspiration.

Thanks for reading.

Oh wow! You have a nice garden! Getting ready for winter!? This weekend is supposed to go below zero - finally! Not that I'm glad about that, but it's winter, right? Well, technically still Fall, but anyways.

Have a great day!

Thanks, we are prepared for winter now, maybe I need to cover the garden furniture though. I hope we will get some snow this winter, I would also like to hit the slopes in DE if possible!

Have a great day too!

I find the Thuja plant's various colours to be quite interesting.
Thanks to your wife for the entrance plant, it looks nice.

That's a nice idea, and I hope you add more plants the following year. The fertilizer will help those plants endure the winter.
Thank you the garden update ,I love it.

Thank you. It is good to have some nature around. !CTP

Very nice! All of my plants are covered with snow right now. We got about four inches dumped on us the last couple of days. It has been a slap in the face for sure! I've been looking at some tall evergreen shrubs to put behind my fence to give us some more privacy from the neighbors that built a house in the woods behind us. It isn't bad in the summer, but as soon as the leaves fall off, there may as well be nothing between us.

That sounds like a big dump of snow.

Those shrubs sound a good idea, you have similar issue as us. Its nice to have neighbors, but you dont want to see them all the time! lol

The plants look great. The pink one at the bottom looks very much like heather from here in Scotland !

I wasn't sure about the order, is this the one you are calling Buchsbaum?

In the US we call them juniper. We have some trees here in danger from pests, but here it's elm trees and ash trees. You don't have to cut them down unless they are infested, as far as I know. The elm trees lost most of them here decades ago from what we call Dutch Elm Disease but the problems with the emerald ash borer bug killing the ash trees is new. The city has been going around treating un-infected trees with something, but I don't know what. I hope your trees make it!

This one is the Buchsbalm. We apparently also get some tree diseases and they have hacked them very badly in many places. It is not something that I have looked into very deeply but I am very skeptical about their methods of hacking all the branches of a tree off to "save it". Usually, this is something they do in the cities only..

Huh! I would think it would be stronger with more leaves to make food for itself. But maybe it's bugs who burrow in them?
I hope yours survives!

yes, there are some bugs, so on some they little bit dying inside but mostly they seem to be surviving ok so far. If they die, we will get something different.
