This feature was most striking and strange, Páez really accepted the result of an election in which did not win the candidate he supported, delivered the position (President) without delay when it corresponded according to the law and when Vargas suffered a coup d'état, Páez resumed the weapons to fight for the civil president and restore him in his position... Me parece que Páez hizo varias cosas muy destacables como presidente, ya sea porque promulgó la primera Constitución de la República de Venezuela, ya sea porque fue el primer presidente electo, ya sea porque fue el primer presidente militar que entregó pacíficamente el poder ¡Y se lo entregó a un civil, José María Vargas! Este rasgo fue de lo más llamativo y extraño, Páez de verdad aceptó el resultado de una elección en la que no ganó él ni el candidato que apoyaba, entregó sin dilación el cargo cuando correspondía según la ley y cuando Vargas sufrió un golpe de estado, Páez retomó las armas para luchar por el presidente civil y restituirlo en su cargo... Sí, tenía defectos, como todo hombre tuvo defectos; como todo político, tiene sus sombras y problemas, pero de verdad que creo que la historiografía ha pecado de omisión ante sus virtudes y se ha dedicado a explotar su separación de Bolívar.
