Wednesday Walk - Watching the Surf Breaking Over the Rocks of Winkle Spruit

in Wednesday Walk3 years ago (edited)

My wife and I just love the ocean. It is so majestic and powerful yet it has such a calming effect on you.

So, as we often do, we took a drive to visit various spots along the coast where we can get out and take a walk.

We are still dreaming about having our "home by the sea", but we are already close enough to enjoy it though. The "dream" of course being able to wake up in the morning and see the ocean when you look out the window.

Currently, we live about 20 KM from the ocean, so it is easy enough to get in the car and go down to the beach, but we are both looking forward to the day when we don't even have to get in the car to do that.

Anyhow, our last outing took us to the beach in a small coastal town called Winkle Spruit, about 60 KM from where we live.

As you turn off to your left from the main road, this is the first view of the ocean.

Arriving on the beach, the first thing that caught my attention, was the trunk of a palm tree that washed out onto the beach.

And then this piece of rock that just appears out of nowhere on the beach...

And then of course...the rocks where you expect to find them.

I just have a fascination with rocks on a beach...

And then of course...the thunder of the surf hitting against the rocks...

And don't forget the fisherman...

Before returning back home, we decided to stop at a little nursery (another favorite spot of ours), just to enjoy the peace and quiet of nature...

At the back of the nursery, you find this little bridge that leads you to an area where you can find a nice little pond and just be surrounded by nature...

But all good things come to an end and eventually, we decided to head back home again.

And that's it from me. Thank you for the opportunity to share my photos with you.

Beautiful, I love Oceans and Mountains and never leave a chance to visit them. Right now, I am not in Australia where I live between the Pacific and the Black Mountains and Blue Mountain not far off so I know the thrill you feel when on a sea beach.

You have not mentioned it but I guess and your images suggest you're close to Elizabeth Avenue, Illovo Beach, in SA. Am I right? As you know I have never mentioned it before but I often read your posts. Just so you know I am here through #dreemport :)

That must be just awesome to live there! It's great to be able to communicate with people who can share in this experience.

You are 100% correct. From the beach where I took the photos, you just cross the main road to go to Illovo. And the photos of the nursery with the pond are actually in Elizabeth Avenue in Illovo Beach.

I just include a little snap-shot from Google photos to show you.

Did you visit South Africa or were you from South Africa before?

Thank you for reading my posts and for your support! I really do appreciate it.

And @dreemport is awesome for introducing us.

Thanks, right now I am close to the foothills of the Himalayas. However, the travel ban has hampered my travel and other plans.

Wow! That sounds awesome! Being close to the foothills of the Himalayas...not the travel ban hampering your travel and other plans...

Actually, I am stuck here because of the travel ban. Hope it comes back to normal before our expectation. Thank you!

Good luck! I hope it works out well for you.

Your photos are lovely and with your description, it felt like I was there. I would also love to live by the ocean, the scenery is breathtaking.

I am really glad to hear that it felt as if you were joining us in our walk on the beach!

Yes, it is lovely to live by the ocean. We are 95% there...living almost by the ocean (still a few kilometers away), but close enough for a quick 20-minute drive to the nearest beach.

Thank you for stopping by and for leaving your comment. I do appreciate it!

Hello @jacoalberts. How beautiful. I love the ocean and the beaches also. Just imagine living within walking distance from that awesome, powerful force of nature. I too wanted to move near the beach and get a beach house. However, I live on the Gulf Coast, and the storms are merciless.

I enjoyed all your beach photographs. You are so lucky to have this.

Thanks for sharing. Take are.

Hi @justclickindiva, thank you for stopping by.

Yes, as I have said to some of the other people too, we love the ocean, but we also respect it.

So, as you say, when you live in an area with some of those severe storms, it is safer to keep some distance between yourself and the shoreline.

Thank you for your kind words and for your support. I do appreciate it!

And thank you to @dreemport for pointing you to my post!

Oh my! What a view, love those rocks and the brightness of the day... So perfect for a walk.

I hope you get to have your dream house soon with your wife... Nice dreem 😊

Got here through @dreemport

It was a perfect day indeed. And thank you for the wishes regarding the house, I appreciate that.

Thank you to @dreemport for bringing you to my post!

I love nature and you have taken time to enjoy nature with your wife which is the perfect moment for both of you.
Thanks for taking us through your tour to the ocean.
@dreemport directed me to your post.

I am glad to hear we share a love for nature. It's always nice to have someone to share it with.

I'm glad you could enjoy it with us, even though in a digital way!

Thank you to @dreemport for pointing you to my post.

These rocks are really fascinating, especially the one that appeared from no where. 😂. That is appearing from no where seriously.
The splashes of water that are created after the strike with rock are appearing beautiful..
The pond surrounded by nature is calming.

I hope you will find the home at your dream place soo @jacoalberts

I'm glad you enjoyed my post, @amberkashif.

Yes, I'm always fascinated by the force those waves hit the rocks and the spray of water and splashes that go along with it!

Thank you for the good wishes regarding our dream place right there by the sea. I do appreciate it.

I to used to dream of a house overlooking the water, but seeing the damage hurricanes can do I am now happy to be a short drive from the water , what a beautiful area you visit, I to am fascinated by rocks and boulder son beaches

Thanks for joining Wednesday Walk :), I truly enjoy exploring the world virtually each Wednesday seeing walks from all around the globe and feeling I am there and experiencing it all myself, such as I did in your post just now :)

Yes, that makes sense what you are saying about hurricanes. I must admit, as much as I love the ocean, I have great respect for it too.

Here in South Africa, we do not get hit by so many hurricanes though. I can remember one severe storm we had some years ago which caused havoc here on the east coast. But normally they would come as low as Mozambique and then start calming down before it gets to us...

But yes, as you say, one can never be too careful with these things.

Yeah we have bene lucky the last Hurricane was heading our way then turned in the last few hours, but still gave us some strogn weather

If I may ask you this question...

As a family (that includes my two daughters and their families), we are considering the idea of moving to New Zealand for the sake of providing a better future for the grandkids...

As a New Zealander...what would your thoughts be about that? The kids have some friends who have already emigrated to New Zealand and they are very positive about the move.

I just thought it would be interesting to get some input from someone like yourself. It's quite a big decision to make...

It is indeed a big decision to make, and I will be honest I am not sure on the formalities for migrating there, but if it wasn't for family here, I would have moved back to NZ when I retired,

It is truly a pure and beautiful country for the most part, plenty of space and lots of natural beauty all around

Thank you for the honesty. I really do appreciate it.

We are busy doing our homework regarding the formalities...the main concern is just...is it a good (the right) decision. But your answer gave me lots of perspective on that and I appreciate it, thank you.

I think we're on the right track.

👍🙂👍
Please keep me updated

Will do so. Thanks again!

I am so loving the shots of the ocean you took... You did great work with it. I really do love the ocean and I have always dreamt of living close to the ocean. I pray my dreams come true someday... I hope you enjoyed your outing?...

Nice piece from you.... I was directed to your post by @dreemport

I'm glad you also have a love for the ocean and I hope your dream comes true for you!

Thank you to @dreemport for directing you to my post!

That's really a therapeutic walk. All the greenery and nature have a way of healing one from the core of one's soul.

Those images are also awesome. Found you through @dreemport

That is very true what you are saying indeed. It just brings a calmness over you that words cannot explain.

Thank you for your kind words.

And a big thank you to @dreemport for pointing you to my post.

Seems like the ocean is not calm at the moment 😁
Pond hehe muddy water Nah
I just wanted to be on the beach at night time to see the real charm of water waves and moon 🌚
Visited your work with the assistance of @dreemport

Yes, being on the beach at night time creates a different atmosphere indeed.

We just love the ocean...day or night, rough or calm. That's what makes it so awesome. It's never the same!

We do have great respect for the ocean though and when the weather really gets rough, we rather keep our distance...lol.

Thank you for your friendly comment. I do appreciate it!

And thank you to @dreemport for pointing you towards my post.

It's just beautiful 😊
Thank you
