This is my post for #freewriters Sunday prompt she is a karate expert hosted by @mariannewest
I keep looking back and trying to figure out where I went wrong. I thought that I was raising her and her brothers and sisters the best way that I knew. I keep thinking that it would have been different if I did not have to work so much, but with 5 kids to raise, it took both of us working.
I tried to make time for them, after fishing all day I would run them to practice or games. They were in baseball, softball, cheerleading, football, and lacrosse. I felt run down but also felt it was important to have them learn about teamwork and putting in the work to be on a team.
Every year when school got out we took them camping for a week. This was true camping, with no electricity, no running water, in a tent camping on an island on our river.
I knew I was in trouble when this one at the age of 9, told me that when she grew up, she wanted to be a cocktail waitress in Fort Lauderdale. She had never been to Fort Lauderdale.
She is not a cocktail waitress in Fort Lauderdale and you can not say that she is a karate expert either. What she is, is lost and I can not help her. My heart hurts.
