This is my post for #freewriters Thursday prompt way out hosted by @mariannewest
I thought this was a pretty crab, the blue is very blue. Not like most of the blue crabs.
This is what most of them look like.
This morning started out on the rough side. When I got to the boat ramp I do as I do every morning, I pull up to the "get your boat ready spot" and put my motor on half tilt, next I unhook the boat from the trailer winch. This is when it went bad. I bent down to unhook it and when I stood up, I hit my jaw on the winch, busting the side of my face. I am on blood thinners so of course, it looked like I was going to bleed out, way out. I kept wiping it with my shirt sleeve, that is all I had to wipe it with. When I got home and looked in the mirror, I had a big streak of blood that had run down my neck. I was glad that no one was at the fish house to see it.
I did not want to fish the place where I had two good catches this soon but with only 140 bait left, I decided to go there. On my way to it, I smelled a trout slick. I bet you did not know that you could smell fish.
When a fish gets scared, it will puke and create a slick spot on the river. If you are downwind of it, you can smell it. I can not explain what it smells like but if you ever smell it, you will know.
I stopped here and the first bait I caught a trout, but it was too big, so I had to throw it back. The next bait I missed one but caught it on the next bait. I fished all over this area and never got another bite.
I went on to the good catch spot and drifted all the way across Long Point mudhole flat and the only fish I had on was a bull shark. Since the water is high, I went back into Long Point mudhole and caught/had another bull shark.
I tried the little island by Nancy's creek canal, I did not mean to throw my line that close to the trees but as soon as it landed a trout hit. Maybe with the high water, they are hiding under the trees from the bull sharks. I caught 5 on the south side and 3 on the west side, then another bull shark. I tried the other two sides but caught nothing.
A thunderstorm was building so I headed for the dock to put my leftover bait away, I have 85 left. I am going to take some days off. I think until Monday. That will be my last trout fishing day for this year.
I had 22 pounds of trout and 18 pounds of jacks.
