My new love Listen to Hive posts over peakd.jpg

A couple of days ago, I started to see these little boxes at the top of the hive posts in peakd.

I was intrigued and then I saw the post by peakd explaining that you could now listen to hive posts that are at least 200 words long and in English thanks to a text to speech feature.

The first trials were horrible because of my German settings

I tried to listen to a post but it was horrible because I use google chrome and my language settings were in German. So the text was read in a germanised English and it was pretty tough to understand anything at all.

Changing the settings

At the top right of my browser, I managed to go to settings and there in the language section, I could switch my preferred language to English. I then had to restart chrome. After that, I tried it again and the quality of the text to speech feature was pretty amazing.

Of course, there are still some details that are a bit strange, for example when there are emoticons in the text, it's quite funny. It renders by something like „open mouth,...“ and it cuts a bit the flow of the text. Otherwise, when the text structure is done well by the author, it's quite easy to follow the content and to understand it.

Building a new habit thanks to it

I started to listen to posts on a regular basis now and it's great while doing something else like playing Splinterlands battles. I listen to the posts, learn something and can give a comment at the end. Suddenly, I can consume much more content than ever before!

I really like this feature because I often don't manage to take the time to read a post from a to z. Like that it's much easier and I can do something else at the same time.

I saw them announcing it on Discord not so long ago!
That is a very cool feature especially for people who are legally blind!
But very practical to do other things at the same time. Have to check it out if it works on mobile!
Such a game changer for sure :)
Haven't tried myself, let's see how the portuguese settings sound like 🤣

Well in terms of speed I agree but when you do some multitasking it can be great to listen to posts while doing something that doesn't require much attention (like cleaning the kitchen lol)

It's a wonderful feature and like you, I use it a lot especially for really long posts which I normally read with a bit of difficulty. Now with that feature, I can just listen to it while doing something else.

Probably your language settings are not in English. It was the same for me and it didn't sound well at all :-)

Haven‘t found those button yet. 🫣 Looked for it on PeakD but…Is that only a function in certain browsers or on a PC? I am using an iPad or iPhone for Hive.

I have it on all posts that are longer than 200 words and are written in English. I'm using chrome and I have it on PC and on the phone. It's at the top right, just under the post title.

I haven't tried it yet but I might have to give it a try later. Thanks for the hint about the settings. I don't think it will be an issue for me but I do think it's important to know about.

With my german browser settings, it was not really understandable but with the correct langauge, it's quite nice to listen to posts.

Thanks for bringing this new feature of Peakd to our attention. I've been distracted by offline stuff quite a bit recently so I wasn't aware of it. Now I know, I will head over to Peakd and check it out. I'm sure it will increase the amount of content I consume on Hive.

Do you play Splinterlands with the sound effects turned off? In a recent post I was showing off my super hi-tech speaker system that I had just plugged in to enjoy the full splendour Splinterlands sound effects!

I play all my games muted because I can't concentrate well with noise :-). So far listening to the posts and playing works quite well for me.
